How much does a swimming hall cost?

The single adult fee in the swimming halls of the largest cities ranges from about 5.70 to 9.50 euros. Prices were checked from the price lists of the cities and municipal companies in October 2026, and they include value added tax. The VAT on sports services is 13.5% from 1.1.2026.

The price difference between halls in the same city can be over a euro, as in Helsinki and Pori. If you live between two halls, it is also worth comparing opening hours, the number of lanes and whether the hall has a gym or a children's pool.

  • Helsinki: Sports Halls swimming pools 6,00 €, Mäkelänrinne 7,20 €, Yrjönkatu 6,00 €
  • Espoo: city swimming halls 6,70 €
  • Vantaa: 6,50 €, weekday morning swim 6–10 am 5,00 €
  • Turku: Impivaara and Petrelius €8.40, family ticket €17
  • Oulu: 6,00 €
  • Jyväskylä: AaltoAlvari €9.50 (morning €6.50), Wellamo €7.00 (morning €5.50)
  • Kuopio: €7.00
  • Lahti: 6.80 €
  • Pori: Keskustan uimahalli €7.50, Meri-Porin uimahalli €5.70

Discounts and free groups

The discounted price usually applies to children and young people, pensioners, students and the unemployed. A discount ticket in large cities typically costs about 3–7 euros. Small children get into most halls free of charge with an adult, but the age limit varies: for example, in Helsinki and Vantaa children under 7 are free, in Turku those aged 0–6 and in Lahti those under 4.

In Turku, a family ticket at €17 covers one adult and 1–4 children or two adults and 1–3 children. It is worth checking the family ticket in other cities too when you swim with the whole family.

Senior benefits

In many cities older people swim cheaply or for free. In Espoo, Espoo residents aged 68 and over get a free +68 Sporttiranneke wristband. In Tampere, people aged 65 and over swim free on weekdays between 9 and 15. Vantaa's Sporttietu 65+ costs 25 euros for half a year or 50 euros for a year, and Oulu's senior card 33 euros for half a year. Jyväskylä's senior card costs 52 euros for half a year, and Kuopio's pensioners' wellbeing wristband 72,50 euros for half a year. If you swim weekly, a season pass quickly becomes cheaper than single payments.

How to save on swimming

A single entry is the cheapest option for an occasional swimmer, but for regular swimmers multi-visit and season passes often work out cheaper.

  • Swim in the morning: for example in Vantaa and Jyväskylä, morning swimming is cheaper than the normal price.
  • Compare the price of a multi-visit card with the single-visit price: if you go weekly, the difference builds up quickly.
  • Use the exercise and culture benefit if your employer offers it. Check in advance which payment instruments the facility accepts.
  • Check whether the swimming hall's gym is included in the ticket, in which case you can do a strength workout during the same visit.

Before the first visit

Check the opening hours and any renovation closures on the swimming hall's website before you go. For example, Vuosaari swimming hall in Helsinki is under renovation from May 2026 to January 2027, and Raksila swimming hall in Oulu was permanently closed on 1.3.2025. At swimming halls you wash before entering the pool, and the hall's rules give more detail on clothing and supervision of children.

Under the Nordic definition, a person who can swim can swim 200 metres continuously, 50 metres of it on the back, after first falling into deep water and going under the surface. If your swimming skill is uncertain, adult swimming courses are organised in many cities.

Swimming as part of the exercise recommendation

The UKK Institute mentions swimming as an example of brisk endurance exercise. The recommended 2 hours 30 minutes of brisk exercise per week is met, for example, with three 50-minute swimming sessions. With Training Radar you can see swimming pool prices and senior discounts in cities, as well as free outdoor gyms, in the same view.
